PA? MD? ARNP? MA?
If you’ve ever visited an urgent care clinic, you may have noticed the initials on your caregiver’s name tag. But what exactly do they mean?
If you’re concerned about not seeing “MD” behind your provider’s name, don’t be. Rest assured, when you visit any Indigo Health location, you or your little one are being treated by highly skilled and educated health care professionals trained in the science and art of urgent care. And our medical assistants (MAs), also an important part of our health care team, also focus solely on the urgent care setting.
Here are a few important facts about our urgent care providers:
1. All urgent care providers specialize in the treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, from colds and flu to sprains and strains.
2. Physician Assistants (PAs) and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs) are part of most health care teams, including hospitals, primary care offices and specialty practices such as orthopedics. And they’ve been part of the health care landscape for more than 50 years.
3. ARNPs and PAs have advanced degrees, state certifications and extensive training and experience. Just like your doctor, ARNPs and PAs diagnose illness, evaluate injuries and other conditions, prescribe medications, and manage treatment plans and overall care.
4. PAs and ARNPS often work alongside our physicians. If the need arises, we always have MultiCare Urgent Care doctors or clinical care directors available for consultation.
If you ever have questions about your care – or the person caring for you – just ask. Our urgent care providers are here to treat you and your loved ones, and that always includes listening your concerns.
